Maintaining safe and functional ventilation shafts in underground mining operations. Recently, a client approached Holovision to assess the integrity of a return ventilation shaft in their underground coal mine.
Material had begun breaking away from the shafts walls, and there was an urgent need to evaluate the risk of further failures to ensure worker safety.
Holovision employed advanced 3D scanning technology to capture a highly detailed point cloud and high-definition video of the shaft lining. This process involved a carefully coordinated operation:
Over a 40-minute period, the shaft was scanned four times to ensure complete and accurate data collection. Our team processed the data to eliminate any distortions, resulting in a precise and detailed point cloud along with high-definition video footage
Initial data was provided to the client on-site, and the complete dataset was delivered within 36 hours. This rapid turnaround enabled the client to quickly assess the condition of the shaft lining and make informed decisions about any necessary repairs to prevent further failures.
A second scan is scheduled to monitor the shaft’s condition over time. By comparing it with the initial dataset, the client will be able to detect any changes and proactively address potential issues, ensuring long-term safety and stability.
